What is Tutoring?
Tutoring is a specialized kind of instruction to assist students
with their learning. If is far different from the traditional
form of teaching often experienced in a classroom because the
personal one-on-one tutoring is structured for the individual and
the level of understanding.
- Promotes independence in learning. Tutoring helps students
to better understand the learning process.
- Personalized instruction. Tutoring paces the activities to
suit the needs of the students and offers a closer monitoring of the
student's progress.
- Assists students to gain insights into learning and the learning
process. Tutoring helps students to discover answers for
themselves providing opportunities, support and additional
resources.
- Provides students with a more in-depth
perspective on learning and academic success. Tutoring is done
by a successful student who shares valuable insights.
Who is a Tutor?
Tutors are successful Concord
University students who have been especially selected and trained to
conduct one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions with other students.
Students chosen to be tutors have excellent study skills and habits
enabling them to offer practical suggestions for academic achievement.
Where is Tutoring
Conducted?
Tutoring is always conducted in a
public location such as the college library, science labs, computer
labs, tutoring rooms of the Student Support Services' office, and
special areas of the Residential Halls. Tutoring is conducted as
one-on-one sessions or in small study groups of two or three students.
What is the Cost
of Tutoring?
Tutoring is a free service offered to
the students of SSS.
