WELCOME TO SSS

What is Student Support Services?
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded TRiO grant program that helps students meet the challenges of academic life.  Since 1973, Concord University's SSS program has assisted Students with earning their college diploma.

What is a TRiO Program?
TRiO programs were established by the U.S. Department of Education and began with only three (hence the name trio) programs over 25 years ago.  However, they have grown to include:  Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Ronald McNair Programs, Equal Opportunity Centers, and Veteran's Upward Bound.  All TRiO programs have the same goals-to make a college education more attainable and to increase the likelihood of a student's success. Currently, there are three TRiO programs at Concord University: Upward Bound, McNair, and Student Support Services.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Each year the Concord SSS program serves 200 qualified students in accordance with the U.S. Department of Education's guidelines.  Therefore, all participants must meet the qualifying criteria of either being first generation, low income, or having a documented physical or learning disability.

What Are the Goals of the Program?
When students have little money and few resources they can use a "hand".  The SSS staff wants to make sure that every one of our students has that hand to hold or to give a gentle nudge through college-whatever it takes! Our goal is to help you stay in school and to graduate college.

WHAT KIND OF HELP DOES SSS OFFER?
SSS helps students with many things including (but not limited to) helping them find their way around campus, assigning a peer mentor, helping register for classes, finding a tutor, personal or academic counseling, technology assistance, choosing a career, and helping with financial aid information.

WANT TO APPLY?
To apply for SSS you must complete an application.  Once accepted, you will work with your SSS counselor to develop an Individual Development Plan to ensure that your academic and personal concerns are addressed.  Note:  All students are encouraged to apply for services in order for the SSS staff to determine eligibility.
