Welcome to the
Concord University Social Work webpage. This site is designed for
anyone interested in Social Work at Concord, current and prospective
students, and anyone interested in Social Work in the Southern West
Virginia area.
The social
work program at Concord University is designed to utilize the
strengths of the liberal arts perspective with emphasis on an
interdisciplinary curriculum.
The
primary mission of the social work program is to prepare graduates
for baccalaureate level, generalist, professional social work
practice in a variety of settings with individuals, families,
groups, organizations, and communities. To accomplish this, the
social work program bases its curriculum upon a liberal arts
perspective and the professional social work foundation.
The professional social work
foundation includes content on social work values and ethics,
diversity, social and economic justice, populations-at-risk; human
behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and
services, social work practice, research, and field practicum. These
content areas are fully integrated into the sum total of the social
work student’s academic experience.
The Concord University Social
Work Program has been accredited for over 30 years by the Council on
Social Work Education.

The mission
of Concord University is to provide quality, liberal arts based
education, to foster scholarly activities, and to serve the regional
community.
The Division
of Social Sciences furthers the student’s understanding of human
society, increases the student’s ability to function effectively
within that society and broadens the student’s understanding of the
means toward acquiring a meaningful, just, and well-ordered society.
The mission of the Social Work
Department is to prepare students for beginning generalist social
work practice in a wide range of settings, and with diverse
populations through education, research, and service with special
appreciation for the peoples and institutions of West Virginia,
Appalachia, and other rural areas.
