Dr. Ramthun spent seven years as a staff member and administrator of non-profit organizations before beginning a teaching career.  His experience was in the field of adventure programming for at-risk youth.  Dr. Ramthun teaches courses in research methodology, outdoor recreation management and ecotourism.

Dr. Ramthun's research interests include user group conflict in recreation, carrying capacity and the measurement of social impacts.   Current projects include the development of an educational exchange program with Mari State Technical University in Russia and the measurement of the effects of stream stocking on tourist visitation at a West Virginia state park.

Dr. Susan Williams is an Assistant Professor of Recreation and Tourism Management at Concord University in Athens, WV.
  As a native West Virginian, Dr. Williams is personally and professionally committed to sustainable tourism development as a viable tool for improving people's quality of life, the environment, and the economy.  Dr. Williams' dissertation research focused on interorganizational partnerships in National Heritage Areas, including the role of the Federal Government as a partner.  Dr. Williams serves on the board of the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Appalachian Forest Heritage Area.
