Welcome to the website for the Department of Human Performance at Concord University. I invite you to take a look at the broad range of academic programs offered within the department. The department’s unique slate of undergraduate degree tracks include nationally accredited programs in athletic training, physical education, and health education. The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is recognized by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and is the only accredited ATEP in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. The Physical Education Teacher Education Program and the Health Education Teacher Education Program are both nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In addition to the aforementioned programs, the department offers an Interdisciplinary Studies Degree in Sport Management. Moreover, for those students seeking something extra the department offers a minor in Health Promotion. New for the fall semester 2009 is a Master’s of Education Degree (M.Ed.) with a content specialization in Health Promotion. The Masters Degree (M. Ed.) in Education with a content specialization in Health Promotion prepares students to become highly trained health educators. The program acclimates Masters candidates to meet the health needs of our society in a variety of work settings; including community and public health agencies, worksite and health promotion programs, schools (for those currently holding a license in another field), and other health organizations such as government agencies, state departments, and nonprofit organizations. The M. Ed. in Health Promotion at Concord University is a 100% on-line degree. Please take some time to further peruse our website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the faculty members in our department.
