      8-26-10 Homeless Veterans Day Program Manager - Pittsburgh, PA

      We are currently seeking a motivated MSW to serve as our Homeless Veterans Day Program Manager.  This position offers candidates an excellent opportunity to utilize their skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where they will be able to quickly make an impact not only on the clients they serve but the organization as well.  This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to showcase their leadership abilities and take a key role in the early development and refinement program.

      Duties: Coordinate with Veterans Administration staff to establish eligibility of attending Veterans for services. Perform case findings functions and outreach, identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs. Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran and other provider organizations including the Veterans Administration.  Coordinate referrals of Veterans tot he Veterans Administration and other community-based providers for additional services based on needs and eligibility. Exercise and coordinate a variety of individual and group counseling techniques that are evidence based and demonstrate good clinical practice.  Maintain case records in accordance with program guidelines and professional requirements.  Implement legal and ethical standards of service delivery, privacy and confidentiality, complying with all applicable regulations.  Oversee the delivery of services within the scope of this program and make recommendations to the Veterans Place Executive Director for further development and refinement of the program. (Responsibility for coordination of services and supervision of volunteers and related staff will be shared with the Executive Director). Drive the Veteran's Place van in support of the Day Program as needed. Augment Transitional Housing case management efforts where needed.  Participate in administrative, staff, clinical, and in-service meetings and training as required.

      Qualifications: Master of Social Work Degree from accredited institution required; Licensed Social Worker in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania preferred. Must be proficient in spoken and written English and in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain automotive insurance.  Experience working directly with the homeless population strongly preferred.  Veteran status preferred.  Experience working with Veteran's Administration preferred.       The Greater Wheeling Coalition for the Homeless, located at 84 Fifteenth Street - Wheeling, WV has an opening for a VISTA.  VISTAs serve for a variety of reasons, from wanting to make the world a better place to discovering a life-changing adventure.  For one year, you will be doing everything you can to create and expand programs that ultimately bring individuals and communities out of poverty.  Recent graduates gain the kind of real-world experience they can't find in a typical entry-level job.  Experienced adults apply their skills and knowledge to serious social problems and discover previously untapped strengths.

      Activities that the AmeriCorps*VISTA member will perform at the Homeless Coalition include: Motivate homeless clients to increase service learning and volunteerism in the community.  Seek out community opportunities for GWCH's clients to assist nonprofit and business factors in the area, thereby increasing skills and social connections for the homeless individual and building community awareness and acceptance towards homeless people.  Collaborate with local colleges to increase service learning activities which include GWCH clients and college volunteer students, such as designing a green roof for the supportive services facility.  Research grant opportunities, develop gift charts and capital campaigns, and coordinate training opportunities for agencies within the Continuum of Care (CoC), a collaborative group of agencies that work with the homeless, in regards to strengthening the efforts to decrease homelessness and poverty.  Coordinate the CoC trainings which would include Ruby Payne's Understanding Poverty, Substance Abuse Prevention.  Arrange for community agencies and businesses to pull resources and staff towards the further development of the Winter Freeze Shelter, a seasonal nightly shelter run completely by volunteers.  Organize and facilitate a community watch program to increase the safety of the area.
