Business Advisory Council

1st Annual Meeting

Ten members of Concord's Business Advisory Council came together for their organizational meeting with Business faculty and Business Student Advisory Council members, on November 16th, 2006. The Council was organized to:

  1. develop and maintain relationships with members of the business community in order to assure our students the best preparation for the careers and business environments into which they will soon be moving.
  2.  provide linkages between graduates and current students through opportunities we design
  3. provide feedback to our faculty about our academic programs

What this Council will be asked to contribute:

  1. Information about marketplace needs
  2. How Concord can meet those needs
  3. How to address competitiveness of our students with those at other universities
  4. Input on curriculum change issues
  5. Internship opportunities for students
  6. Executives in residence program (development)
  7. Recognition awards for outstanding local/regional businesses annually
    Funding strategies

In the future, we hope to extend invitations to membership in the Council to even more business people, not only Concord University graduates, thus growing our network for the benefit of students, faculty, and the University. Further, the Business Advisory Council will be of help in our journey to accreditation with AACSB, the Association for the Accreditation of Collegiate Schools of Business.

The Business Advisory Council is expected to meet in Athens once annually; and in a telephonic or videoconferencing format no more than 2 other times annually.

We are currently working to establish:

  1. A statement of purpose, mission statement.
  2. Advice on educational issues
  3. Linkages with the business community
  4. Advocacy for the school
  5. Financial support (optional)
